Is bulk billing available?

Bulk billing is available to regular patients who are registered with MyMedicare, nominate Copacabana Medical Centre as their preferred practice, and hold a valid concession card. All of these conditions apply. Please contact reception to discuss whether you are eligible for bulk billing.

If this is your first visit, please confirm the fee rather than assuming it will be bulk billed. Reception can also explain payment arrangements and any applicable Medicare rebate.

What to bring to your first appointment

  • Arrive 10 minutes before your appointment to complete a New Patient form
  • Your Medicare card and current concession card, if you have them.
  • A list of medicines and supplements you take, plus any known allergies.
  • Relevant specialist letters, recent results or hospital discharge information you already have.
  • Your previous practice’s contact details if you would like to transfer records.
  • Any forms you need the doctor to complete, and a short list of the things you would like to discuss.

(Reminder: If you have multiple issues to discuss, please contact reception so we can schedule an appointment of the appropriate length).

If you need interpreter support or have access requirements, let reception know before your visit so we can discuss arrangements with you. For registration paperwork and arrival timing, follow any instructions provided when you book, or call reception if you are unsure.

What happens at the first visit

Your first appointment gives you and your GP time to get to know each other. You can discuss what brought you in, your medical history, medicines, and any ongoing care. Start with the concern that matters most to you so the doctor can help plan the appointment.

Your GP will discuss recommended next steps. If you have several concerns, you may need a follow-up visit. Before you leave, ask about any tests, referrals or follow-up appointments so you know what to do next.

Can I book if I am new to the practice?

Yes. New patients are welcome and can book through HotDoc by choosing from the appointments shown online. If you are unsure which doctor or appointment to book, our reception team is happy to provide further information to help you decide or book you over the phone.

What can I see a GP about?

We provide family medicine, immunisations, health assessments, workers compensation, and care for acute and ongoing conditions. Our services also include women’s health, men’s health, mental health, transgender health, skin checks and addiction medicine treatment. If you are unsure which appointment to choose, reception can help direct your booking.

Can I transfer my medical records?

Yes, we can help you arrange transferring your relevant medical records from your previous practice. Please let reception know, and we can explain the consent and request process. Your previous practice may charge a fee for transferring your records. Alternatively, you can request a Health Summary, which provides an overview of your medical history and current medications; however, this may not provide all the information required for a safe and appropriate transfer of your care. Please bring any relevant specialist letters, assessment reports, or test results you already have. You don’t need to remember or retell your entire medical history from scratch – having your existing records can help your GP understand your background and plan your care.

Can my first appointment be by telephone?

Under Medicare requirements, your initial appointment must be face-to-face. Depending on your circumstances and eligibility, subsequent appointments may be available via telehealth. If you would prefer telehealth appointments, please discuss this with your GP during your initial consultation. They can advise whether telehealth is clinically appropriate for your needs and meets the relevant Medicare requirements.

How do I change or cancel my appointment?

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice by calling reception or using the online booking system. Letting us know early helps another patient use the appointment. Late cancellation or missed-appointment fees may apply; see our cancellation policy for the full conditions and contact us if an unexpected situation affects your attendance.

Read our cancellation policy

How do I get my results?

Ask your doctor how and when to obtain any test results and whether you need a follow-up appointment. If you are unsure about the arrangements after your visit, please call reception.
